"I’m sick of this backpack. This continual being
part of the problem as long as I don’t do anything
about it. As long as I don’t burn everything
down".
tanken begins in the year 2050 and is based on the scenario that
everything has turned out alright. The glaciers are no longer
melting. Nestlé, Amazon and Meta have gone bankrupt and no one buys
fuel because there is simply no need for it anymore. For almost
everyone, this scenario means an unimaginable utopia. For the mascots of the petrol station companies
it means the apocalypse, actually the end. Esso, Shell, Rudi Rüssel,
Gasolin and Avia meet at their regular filling station and try to
find a way to deal with the situation. With their corporate identity
backpack that they just can’t get rid of and last but not least, the
frightening realisation that the world will continue to turn without
them.
Why do
we lack utopia today and how do we get it back? Is there an exit
from the cage of capitalist realism?
Partial answers are given by
Rutger Breckmann in "Utopias for Realists", Jack Kerouac "On the
road", Albert Camus "The Myth of Sisiphos", but also Nietsche, Ernst
Bloch and many more. The production is an interplay of dance,
material and puppet theatre as well as sound installation.
